Holy Empire of Azivnia
The Holy Empire of Azivnia is a major power in Deceron, unified by devotion to Azivnia, a legendary warrior and general worshipped as a goddess. Belief in Azivnia is the sole requirement for belonging within the Empire, allowing peoples of many origins to exist under a single religious authority. Azivnian rule prioritizes order, military strength, and centralized control. Life for most is harsh but stable under Imperial protection.

History & Governance
The Empire formed during the collapse of the Old Empire, which had fragmented into independent states by the time Azivnia’s legend spread. After her death, the Cult of Azivnia absorbed the Old Empire’s remaining institutions and reestablished imperial rule under a strict theocratic system. The Empire is ruled by an Emperor, believed to be the vessel of Azivnia’s soul, who governs through a dozen Princes (also called Zelats). Each Prince controls a province and rules hereditarily, though their authority depends on the Emperor. Princes often act independently in practice, supported by a small central bureaucracy.
Religion
Azivnia is worshipped as a divine figure embodying unity and conquest. Religious belief is mandatory, while formal observance is secondary to loyalty. Political and religious authority are inseparable, with the Emperor, Princes, and clergy forming the ruling elite.
Military & Society
The Empire maintains a professional military, with service widely expected. Its most prominent forces are cavalry units mounted on draqostriz, raised primarily by the Dralzani, a culturally distinct people within the Empire who retain significant autonomy. Society values obedience and martial competence. Power and wealth are concentrated among military leaders, clergy, and established dynasties.
Geography
The Empire extends from the Vastmarch Plains and the Crown Coast in the east to the Sederyan Mountains in the west. Its core territories lie along the Zarcovn River, which flows from the mountains to the sea, where [Cherivozal] stands at its mouth. This river basin forms the political and economic center of the Empire. To the north rise the Black Mountains, beyond which lie the largely unknown Lands Beyond.
